“Day 18” or “The day of hope and ultimately, despair”.
Have had a pretty awful night with my fever reaching close to 40°C, and somehow still feeling like I was going to freeze to death Morning came as some relief to me, although I still couldn’t raise my head without vomiting.
The amazing news was my SARS-CoV-2(the correct name that laboratories use for COVID-19) test results were NEGATIVE.
Having ruled out COVID-19; we were left with the very real possibility of meningitis as being the cause of my illness; which later the afternoon was confirmed by the testing of my CFS fluid taken during a lumbar puncture(spinal tap).
After contacting my neurosurgeon, I was told that it would be best if I transferred to another hospital.
Needless to say, I had some regrets about following that advice.
If I can offer any wisdom about transferring from one hospital to another, unless absolutely necessary, you might be better off staying where you are, especially in the middle of a pandemic.
I would like to thank all the staff members, especially Dr Blaine Bloy and Dr Naidoo, who treated me at Life Flora Clinic. The service I received was impeccable, the staff were kind and compassionate and I truly appreciate the assistance rendered.
