Day Twelve of the Pandemic Lockdown Diaries…
So today, I have decided to share some of my favourite simple bread recipes with you.
TRADISIONELE BOERE BROOD
This is my mom’s personal bread recipe and let me just say this is probably the only bread recipe you’ll ever need… It’s perfect for loaves, bread rolls and even Vetkoek.
• 2kg of white all-purpose cake flour.
• 2 packets(10g packet) of instant yeast
• 2 teaspoon of salt
• Lukewarm water (this isn’t a fixed amount as you add as you go until you are happy with the dough’s consistency). Make sure that the water isn’t too hot or you will kill the yeast!
• A bit of vegetable oil, to grease your hands, if you’re mixing by hand.
To start off add all the dry ingredients to a large bowl, if you’re kneading by hand, or to the mixer(for those fancy few who own large stand mixers; also make sure that you choose the attachment for mixing dough) then slowly add the water and start mixing.
Once mixed, you need to let your dough rise.
Once the dough has risen for a second time in the bread pans, pop the bread into a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees centigrade; and bake for 1 hour.
